During my trip to Sri Lanka, I went for the Cinnamon Citadel Hotel in Kandy as the perfect lodging because this fabulous four-star hotel is located only 15 minutes away from Kandy town and three-and-a-half-hour drive from the airport. Although so close to bustling Sri Lanka’s capital, the hotel itself is nestled high up in the hills. Sitting peacefully beside a bend in the Mahaweli River, surrounded by mountains, Cinnamon Citadel Hotel in Kandy is a perfect destination for travelers looking for peace and serenity in the heart of Shi Lankan Lavish surroundings.
The serenity is a trademark of this beautiful hotel in the core of the country’s quietness. From the moment you step into the lobby section and the reception, the tranquility will surround you from everywhere you look. Moreover, you’ll almost be able to feel the history of the ancient Sinhala kings through traditional Kandyan art displayed throughout the hotel.
In the Cinnamon Citadel Hotel in Kandy, you can choose from superior and deluxe rooms to luxurious suites.
Each of 95 elegant Superior room features a stunning view of either lush, gorgeous gardens or the Mahaweli River. If you’re bringing the family along, you can book one of the superior rooms on the ground floor. These open into spacious beautifully landscaped gardens, ideal for kids’ play or family gatherings.
I absolutely loved the get-togethers with my friends around the barbecue in the evenings. Each Superior room is equipped with amenities such as a king-size bed or twin beds, safety deposit box, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, air conditioning, free toiletries, iron, and ironing board.
The Deluxe Rooms
The Cinnamon Citadel Kandy features 24 Deluxe rooms, all of which are located in the newest wing of the hotel. I liked how each fancy decorated Deluxe rooms had a private balcony offering a breathtaking view of the Mahaweli River or immaculately landscaped hotel’s gardens.
You’ll find each Deluxe room equipped with a king-sized bed or twin beds, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, safety deposit box, mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities and much more.
The hotel offers two Suites for those seeking to sense a truly royal experience. You’ll definitely feel like a king here. Both luxury Suites provide stunning views of the Mahaweli River and the mountains in the background.
In your Suite, you’ll enjoy the convenience of two bathrooms, which I find pretty cool. Alike hotel rooms, both Suites are equipped with a king-sized bed or twin beds, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, safety deposit box, air conditioning, minibar, free toiletries, coffee and tea making facilities and additional facilities.
The Cinnamon Citadel Hotel’s staff simply made me feel at home. The hotel staff’s hospitality and the warmth of their smiles will make your day. Not to mention their attention to detail and swift service. I am absolutely thankful for the warm and welcoming experience they provided during my stay at the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy.
What to eat and What to do?
For the finest dining experience, I suggest you visit Panorama, the hotel’s main restaurant. I enjoyed tasting delicious Sri Lankan food while admiring the view of the Mahaweli River. There are also Cafe C, Lounge Bar, and Destination dining available to the guest of the Cinnamon Citadel Hotel.
I believe rejuvenating your mind and body is important all year long, and particularly when you travel. That’s why I truly enjoyed the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool and gym. And if you’re up for sports, the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy offers indoor sports activities such as chess, table tennis, and badminton.
